City of Newcastle Amateur Swimming Club

Welcome to The City of Newcastle Amateur Swimming Club! Our Club develops swimmers to enable them to take part in competition at regional, national, international, Commonwealth and Olympic competitions and is one of the top clubs in the country.

Time Trial >>> The next time trial will be on Sunday 19th July 2009, City Pool.  Your help is needed and attached is the number of volunteers required to ensure the smooth running of the time trial.  Please email Joanne of your availability.  Thank you.

Volunteers Required

British Gas ASA National Age Group >>> draft programme

Newburn Summer Meet Entries >>> please check your swims entered and notify your Squad Rep if there are any queries.  Due to the volume of rejected swims, if any swimmers now have so few entries that they wish to withdraw for full refund, please notify your Squad Rep by Monday 29th Jun.
Thanks

No Pay No Swim >>> From now on there will be a NO PAY NO SWIM policy for swimmers who wish to enter competitions.

Information on forthcoming galas and gala closing dates are given well in advance on notice boards and the website whenever possible.  Please can swimmers/parents take note of your own squad closing dates as these vary by squad.  It is important that galas are closed on these specified dates due to the volume of entries.  Did you know - 200 entries are processed per gala on average ?  Entries trickling in by phone/email/text and IOUs inevitably cause confusion, mistakes and extra work for all involved.

In the event that you are not able to attend the gala closing night, then it is important that you leave your entries - gala, name, ASA No., DOB, events and times together with a cheque (payable to Co Newcastle ASC) in a sealed envelope.  This can be left with any members of the committee at the City Pool or your Squad Rep before the closing date.

So please help your volunteer Squad Rep and give them your continued support by making their job easier to do and hassle free.

Thank you.

Small pool closure >>> Discussions are still continuing between the club and the City Council regarding the closure of the small pool. We are pleased to note that Councellor Greg Stone has stated, 'I want to ensure all groups using the small pool are found suitable alternative provision.'

Helpers Course >>>> A 'Helpers Course' is the first step into coaching - it was with me. It does NOT have an examination at the end of it like other coaching courses.
Anyone who would like to consider such a course to e-mail me please. I'm also going to put a notice up on the notice board.
Once I've found out what the level of interest is I'll contact Fiorna Cairns-Smith, the ASA education officer, to make the necessary arrangements. The course lasts about 8-10 hours and can be completed either over 4 - 5 evenings or over one day at the weekend.
I would propose running the course in the autumn once everyone is back from summer hols.
The course is open to both swimmers and parents - the only stipulation is that people doing the course must be over 14 yrs of age.
The going rate appears to be £50 for such a course but I'm sure we could consider some sort of subsidy particularly for the kids - to be discussed at the next committee meeting. See you soon, John Sim.
