It's Not the Winning - It's the Taking Part!!The ‘Derwentside Christmas Cracker' Gala was a big step up in standard for many of the ‘AB' squad
members who took part and despite the lack of medals there were still some very creditable performances.
The most notable performances were in the fly events. Zoë Kirkwood came 3rd in her age
group in the 50 fly (the squad's only medal of the weekend) and 5th in the 100 fly, Emma Lees 5th in the 100 fly and 4th in
the 200 fly in her age group and Amy Larsen 5th in the 100 fly in her age group. The girls also produced many good results
in their other events.
Only one of the lads was competing at this gala,
Nathan Falcus, whose best finish was 6th place in the 50 breast stroke.
Also
competing across the weekend were Nicola Hastings, Leanne Bayliss, Elizabeth Bishop, Robyn Waugh and OIivia Murphy. Although
they were not highly placed in their events many of them produced either personal best times or seasons best times.
Although medals were harder to come by than in some of the galas we go to the positives were
that many swimmers were producing PB or SB times and there were more swimmers at this gala than there have been at other events.
HOW MANY?!
This will be a short report
as only two swimmers made it to Stanley for the annual Peterlee Graded Gala!
Gerry Rowland produced
some creditable swims in the 100 F/C, 50 back and 100 breast despite her current injury while Sam Cornell had an excellent
series of swims in the 50, 100 and 200 F/C. He produced a 10 second PB in the 200 F/C and also competed in the 50 and 100
backstroke finishing 3rd in the 50.
Where were the rest of you??
