The City club was
formed in 1977 with the appointment of Ian Oliver as the Chief Swimming Coach/Organiser to Newcastle Council.
In
1978 a holding committee of the Chairman of Newcastle ASTC, Newburn ASC and Rutherford School ASC managed the club until its
first Annual General Meeting in November. Originally the club covered all disciplines and they still are associated with them
although Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo are now separate clubs. In August 2003 the club was awarded a gold
award for Performance by Swim21 and in 2005 gained silver in the other three Swim21 categories, Competitive Development, Skill
Development and Teaching.
