Scottish Age Group National Championships, Tollcross, April 9-13 April 2008

6 AA squad swimmers competed in this long course event, Andrew Burn, Laura Dawson, Zoe Kirkwood, Nicola Hastings, Josh Hobbs & Lewis Wiseman-Ord. Andrew, Zoe, Nicola & Josh were competing in their first ever individual national championships. The swimmers did themselves, their coach & their squad & club proud by delivering at least one medal on each day of the competition coming away with 3 gold, 1 silver & 2 bronze. 20 pb’s were set from 38 swims.

Laura Dawson, competing in her last event before moving up to AAA squad, continued her excellent form this season by claiming a gold in the 200 fly with a 2.24.30 pb, a silver in 100 fly with a 1.04.18 pb as well as five 4th place finishes in 200 IM, 100 back, 200 free & 400 IM. Her 200 IM, 100 back, 200 free, 200 fly, 100 free & 100 fly were all British National qualifying times.

Andrew Burn made real progress at this meet, claiming 2 golds in 200 back with 2.20.73 & 100 back in 1.05.98. His 200 back was Burnsy’s first ever British National qualifying time ! Andrew also gained a bronze in 200 fly on a 2.22.75 as well as 8th in 400 IM, 6th 200 IM & a 100 fly pb.

Zoe Kirkwood claimed a brilliant bronze in 200 fly dropping her semi pb by a further 10 seconds in the final to 2.35.82. She also finished 4th in 100 fly on 1.10.99 & 10th in 400 free on 4.59.75.

Nicola Hastings also made two finals with pb’s in 100 breast 1.24.56 to finish 5th & 200 breast 3.01.83 to finish 6th.

Josh Hobbs made the 100 fly final with 1.10.77 to finish 6th. He also competed in 200 fly.

Lewis Wiseman-Ord, swam in 200 free making the final after a 2.08.71 pb to finish 8th, he also swam a pb in the 200IM heats.
