Group Championships, March 8-9 2008, Neptune Centre, Middlesbrough AA squad continued their excellent form at the second weekend of
this meet. A further 10 swimmers took part, the squad competed over 66 swims including finals & came out with 47 new pb’s
& a medal tally of 15 (6 Gold/1 Silver/8 Bronze) & 25 final placings. Over the entire championships the squad bagged
34 medals (12 Gold/8 Silver/14 Bronze). Every swimmer pb’d at least once over the weekend. Well done to all !
Andrew Burn continued to
be the squad’s top performer. He competed in a further 6 events, making the finals in all of them & collected 4
golds & 1 bronze in the process !!! All but one of his swims were pb’s. Andrew understandably also took gold in
the 13 yrs Bagcats. He won an amazing 10 golds & 2 bronzes over the whole of the Champs. Oliver Bratley bagged himself a medal of each colour, winning 100 back & making the finals in all of
his four events setting 7 new pb’s along the way. Jamie Magee took gold
in 200 Breast, along with a bronze in 100 free. He set 6 new pb’s. He completed a great meet by finishing 3rd overall
in the 13 yrs Bagcats. Zoe Kirkwood had a very busy weekend, competing in 7
events (including 200 fly/400 free & 400 IM !) she set a new pb every time she swam, setting 11 new best times. She was
rewarded with 2 bronzes in 200 fly & 100 fly. Steph Redfern also won 2 bronzes
in 100 & 200 back, she also set 3 new pb’s. Catherine Shafto claimed
the final squad medal with a bronze in 100 fly setting a new pb along the way.
Lewis Wiseman-Ord competed in 4 events & made the final of each
setting 3 new pb’s. Nicola Hastings competed in 5 events, setting new
best times in all of them & making the final of 100 fly. Vanessa Venchard
& Anna Mackey also set new pb’s in 200 back & 100 back respectively.’
